In the semi-final contest against Millington on Sunday, Vassar’s early lead over the Cardinals held up and the Vulcans advanced to the district championship game with a 6-3 win.
Ethan Dunham got the start for Vassar and received the win, pitching 6.2 innings before meeting his pitch limit. Dunham allowed six hits and two walks, but struck out nine batters. Three runs were scored on Dunham; however, none of them were earned. Jacob Preston collected the final out of the contest and received the save.
The offense was driven by patience at the plate, as the Vulcans collected 11 walks and four hits in the game. Blake Kerr led the offense with three walks and Max Kukulski had two walks. Four Vassar batters collected a hit, but none bigger than Dylan Hubbard’s two-run RBI single to secure the victory in the last inning.
