The Vassar varsity baseball team fell behind early and couldn’t recover in an 11-1 loss to Brown City in their 2021 season opener.

Vassar struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time containing Brown City in game one of Tuesday’s doubleheader. Brown City jumped out to an early lead in the first inning and Vassar remained within reach through four innings; however, Brown City broke the game wide open in the fifth inning, scoring seven runs and ending the game via mercy rule.

Nate Whitney took the loss for Vassar, surrendering three runs on three hits over three innings, striking out six.

Rylan Mansueto and Colin Kilmer each collected one hit to lead Vassar’s offensive attack.
