On Saturday, Vassar travelled to Valley Lutheran High School in Saginaw to face the Reese Rockets in their first game of the district tournament. The Vulcans used a stellar offensive performance, including 14 hits and 11 runs to clinch an 11-4 victory over the Rockets.
Vassar jumped all over Reese in the first inning, scoring five runs and batting through the entire lineup. Reese was able to string together a few hits and score some runs; however, they were never able to claw back from the early deficit. Collin Bowden, Brennan Dunham, Abe Cerda, Steven Hecht, and Max Kukulski all collected multiple hits for the Vulcans. Bowden went 3-for-4 with 4 RBIs at the plate to lead the Vassar offense. Steven Hecht started game one and received the win on the mound, striking out three and allowing one earned run over two innings. Max Kukulski and Ethan Dunham pitched the final five innings, striking out three and allowing two earned runs.
The Vulcans’ 11-4 win over Reese earned them an opportunity to play for a district championship against Valley Lutheran.
